Why We Started Embrace Strings

At 6'5", playing viola without pain has always been a struggle. It was constant and pulled me away from fully connecting with my music.

After a neck injury forced me to take a hard look at my setup, I realized the market had a major gap.

Most standard chinrests are designed for an average body. But when you build for average, you never build perfectly for anyone. And while there are several adjustable options that work well for finding the correct height and tilt, they all have one flaw — they require a tool to adjust and are not convenient to use.

So Declan and I started building a chinrest that was both adjustable and convenient. After many iterations and failures, we finally built something that helps musicians perfect their setup and fully connect to their music.

And we aren't stopping at chinrests. There are many stages of practice, rehearsal, and performance that hold us back from engaging fully with our music. Chinrests are just the first step in designing a musical experience where no musician is held back from fully Embracing their music.

That's why we started Embrace Strings.

Play freely,
